Before the Koret Children's Quarter renovation, this was the Golden Gate playground....
I understand the need to update, but please tell me they didn't just send this fabulously trippy seventies equipment to the scrap heap. Do any of my California readers know?

Thank you, thank you, thank you. What a great blog. I'm constantly on the search for great playgrounds. Unfortunately there are so many of the same old things at every park. One playground you haven't mentioned yet that has been the best playground I've had the pleasure of visiting is the Princes Diana Memorial Playground in London. It's a Peter Pan theme with a huge pirate ship and sand as fine as sugar.
ReplyDeleteThanks dk! The Diana playground is on my list, both to post about and to visit when next in London. Had I anticipated writing a playground blog, I would have made sure to photo it on my last visit. But the playground blog snuck up on me. :)
ReplyDeleteHave you ever seen this playground?

It's called Parque Diagonal Mar, in Barcelona http://maps.google.es/maps?f=d&saddr=Avinguda+Diagonal+3,+08019+Barcelona+(Diagonal+Mar)&daddr=41.40737,2.214003&hl=es&geocode=Cejsbis97Lp8FXzidwIdu9shACGj-goN0kkZSQ%3B&mra=mi&mrsp=1&sz=17&sll=41.407281,2.214636&sspn=0.004635,0.006909&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=17 Beautiful and great fun... Lots of swings, balance beams, slides and musical gadgets in the ground to make funny sound...!!! It has a lot of green areas and a artificial lake.
Sorry for the long comment....
I remember when this equipment was brand new in Golden Gate park--was so excited when the park was fully open again after lots of renovation! I was very young, so it must have been 1986-89 or so.
